[Obi-Wan certainly could choose not to be a Jedi. They weren't jailers after all, and there have been those who have left the Order. But as Usagi suspected, it did mean a lot to him. Especially considering he nearly missed out on the chance to be a knight when he was young and no one had chosen him as an apprentice.]

I suppose that depends on your definition. Politicians help the galaxy, law enforcement as well, but what distinguishes a Jedi is our ability to use the Force.

We had been the peacekeepers of our galaxy for millennia. Up until our destruction that is.

But what about... um... Six? Sis? SITH! What about them? I mean, they are bad, right? But can't they use the Force too?

Which... destruction are we talking about, exactly? [The one Anakin apparently causes or something else?]

Yes, they do. They are the product of those who give into their passions and desires. They are the opposite of the Jedi in that they seek to gain only for themselves, and will harm anyone who stands in their way.

[At her next question there was a pause before he answered.]

The Jedi Order was wiped out by the Sith. Of which Anakin had a significant part in.

So either... follow your passions and desires and become evil... or... give up any attachments to everyone you could possibly love but help the universe? I... think I'll just pass on the Force entirely. It sounds pretty terrible that those are literally my only options.... no offense!

Ah... so... we're talking about the thing Anakin is trying so hard to avoid... Do you think that when he goes back he can actually change it?

None taken. Though in my galaxy, the Force isn't something you can just pass on. Not that there are not those that choose not to pursue training, but they can not just turn off their powers. Having this power comes with a certain responsibility.

As far as Anakin, I'm not really sure. I would like to believe he can, but it may not be within our control.

It's why I hope to stay here, and he seems to have come around to that line of thinking as well.

I... I want to believe him too. But even though I want to believe him, but that's the problem with knowing the future right? You try to change it and make it happen or you do nothing and it happens anyways.

There's a lot in my future I want to change too. But some part of me wonders if I even can, and then knowing I'm going to make the same mistakes all over again...

There is a great deal I would want to change as well, you're certainly not alone in that feeling, nor is Anakin.

But there's also the question of whether it should be changed.

I believe we were brought here for a reason. Whether its to change our future, or not, I'm uncertain. It's a bit of a selfish thought, but we are happy here. I would rather stay than face the possibility that we could return to a cruel reality and be unable to change it.

Are there a lot of Jedi who feel this way? If so many don't like it, why not change it? I mean, all religions and things change over time, right? I'm sure this could too if enough people say they're unsatisfied with it!

Mine changed whether or not I wanted it to.

It's... scary, I know. But I also think that no matter how horrible and cruel reality can become, there is hope somewhere, there's always hope.

I wasn’t talking about changing the Jedi. If anything, I would want to change it so the Jedi survive. Without them, a great evil takes over the galaxy and many suffer as a result. The Force has been plunged into darkness.

Our religion is what kept peace and balance in the galaxy.

My only hope is that one day the Jedi Order can return. But from what I’ve been told, it doesn’t.

But how can it survive if Jedi aren't allowed to marry?

Force sensitivity isn’t ncessarily inherited. Anyone can potentially be born with it.

That’s why the Order actively sought out younglings we knew to possess it from across the galaxy.

Okay, but that doesn't mean children of Jedi AREN'T Force-sensitive, right? Luke is Anakin's son and he was Force-sensitive!

And yeah... actually no, I'm not really okay with that part, especially since you weren't even given a choice at six months old but still, wouldn't that at least increase the odds?

Yes, both of Anakin’s children are Force sensitive, but Anakin is also not a normal example. A Jedi having children also doesn’t guarantee that they will be Force sensitive. Occasionally the Order has had exceptions, including one master who came from a race that was dying out.

He was allowed to have wives and children but kept his distance from them. None of his children were Force sensitive.

I may not have had a choice when I was a baby, but if they had waited till I was old enough, I would not have been able to receive the training I needed in time. Also, I could choose to leave the order at any time. In fact, there was times I considered it.

What made you think of leaving?

The first time was when I was young. I fell in love with the Duchess of Mandalore while my Master and I were assigned to protect her. We were on the run for about a year.

However, we had very different lives and paths to follow once the threat was gone. Though, if she had asked, I would have stayed with her.

[Just the thought of Satine brings a sadness and heartache that leaks through the connection just a little bit. There is certainly some regret.]

The other time was when Anakin nearly left the Order. He was still a boy then. I had promised my master I would train him, and I would have left the Order with him to fulfill that promise.

Why... didn't she ask you if you loved each other? Did something stop her?

Wait, why did Anakin want to leave? I'm not sure I understand, what caused both of you to nearly leave and then stop?

Satine’s first love was her people, but I suspect she also didn’t want to come between me and my career as a Jedi.

Anakin had a hard time fitting in with the other younglings in the Order. He was an exception to the rule and was technically too old to have been admitted. So his experiences and training was not the same as the others. Every youngling had to compete to find a master and become a Padawan. He didn’t have to do that. He was discouraged, but changed his mind during a mission we had together.

He never really gets a break, neither of you do, huh? [It's said sadly, mournfully.]

It seems that way, sometimes.

[He can’t deny they have had a hard life.]

But neither of us have been one to dwell on it much. There’s little point as the past can’t be changed.

Yeah... but what are you two doing to make yourself happy to make up for it?

If the Force is all about balance, then clearly you two should have just as many happy moments in your lives as sad ones, right? Sometimes we gotta make our own happiness.

Oh... we have our ways.

[Theres a little secretive smile at that. He wasn’t going to go into detail there.]

Just living a peaceful life, together, has made us happier.

[Admittedly, Usagi's mind immediately goes NC-17 but she clears her throat and banishes the thought because she doesn't want to think of one of her father figures having sex no matter how attractive Obi-Wan is because EWWWWWWWWWWWW, he's like a DAD to her.]
