[A part of Anakin feels like it's dying at those words, and his face crumbles in pain as he absorbs it.]

Would you try again? One more time.

[He's not ready to give up. There's no other choice, but he can't let go on his own. It's his fatal flaw, and it's especially obvious right now, when he's so desperate.]

Please.

[His voice cracks in the middle of the word, and he puts one hand over his face as he tries to pull it together. He might as well not have bothered, because his composure has fled and his stability is looking like it's about to follow.]

Anakin...

[His voice is soft and sad. He already knows the answer, but stops himself from saying so. The pain and anguish he feels from his friend is difficult to bear.

Reaching out, Obi-Wan tries to place a hand on Anakin's shoulder. A comforting gesture but more than that.]

Let's try together.

[Anakin's bond with Padme would be stronger than Obi-Wan's own. If anyone could sense her it would be him. But it was well known that if Jedi combine their efforts it would be stronger and reach farther.]

[He reaches to put one hand on Obi-Wan's automatically, a little of the hope he's been feeling returning to his face. He nods, wanting to smile but able to tell this is not the time for it. He can smile when things are better, when they find her. (Because they must find her, because she must be waiting for rescue. Isn't she?)]

Right. It's been a while, but that's our best chance. Let's do it together.

[Because if anything was going to work, it would be their partnership. It's gotten them through so much before; why wouldn't it be just the thing to try now? He should have thought of this before.

Anakin closes his eyes, steadying his breathing and trying to get to the best state he can to access the Force. It's difficult, but he has the best motivation he knows of to get this done.]

[Obi-Wan nods, and then does the same. Closing his eyes, he quietly centers himself. Reaching out with Anakin to the Force. Their power becoming one as they expand their reach.

Searching, feeling, hoping, for some trace of the young woman who is a wife and friend. When there's no trace of her anywhere in Verens, the reach extends further. To the other villages on the island, and even farther. To the very edges of the island.

But alas, after quite some time of trying, they are left empty handed. There's no sign of Padme, anywhere.

Obi-Wan opens his eyes again, reflecting a deep sorrow as he looks back up at his friend and brother. His voice a whisper of condolence at their failure.]

I'm sorry, Anakin.
