Though when she comes through the door this particular day, the Jedi peeks out from inside the kitchen ready to great her and... sees hair. Which looks like a disheveled Wookiee. Instead of "hello" as he intended, something else comes out of his mouth.]
... Oh my.
no subject
Oh my? What's that mean? What did she do? She didn't come in a window, she said hello, did she forget something? Rey looks down at her feet, realizing her boots are a bit dirty. Maybe that's it. She kicks them off to avoid tracking in more mud, abandoning the attempts to tame her hair, and instead holds her hand out in the direction of the satchel she'd dropped on the floor next to the door and starts walking to the refresher.] I'll clean it, sorry.
[It's not the bag but something inside it that's pulled to her hand. Luke's saber is the only thing she can call to her most days without frustration, but it's convenient enough when she carries it in her bag all the time. She'll learn how to pull other stuff later... probably.]
no subject
Leave it, I'll take care of that later.
[He doesn't sound angry or perturbed, more concerned than anything and insistent. Before motioning to the sitting room not far from where they were standing.]
Come, sit down.
no subject
With almost anyone else, she'd refuse. Come up with an excuse and escape. Avoid closeness with another person the way she usually does. But this is Obi-Wan. Other than Finn, he's the closest thing to family she has on this planet. If she can trust anyone, it's Obi-Wan.
Rey paws a bit a her hair self-conscious as she slinks into the sitting room, shoulders scrunched like a scolded puppy.] It's not that bad, is it?
no subject
Have a seat.
[Sorry Rey, it's pretty bad.]
Do you know how to braid?
[The Jedi is well aware what her usual style is. But it's obviously not working well for her hats and she's had to improvise. Which he understands, but perhaps he can help her improvise a little better.]
no subject
She shakes her head at Obi-Wan's question, the motion short and quick like she's ashamed to give it even though she's certain she has good reason. Why would she know? Who would teach her? Rey knows Obi-Wan has no intention of being cruel, but every time someone asks her a question like that, she can't help feeling mocked for the things she's never had.]
Not many creatures on Jakku with hair.
no subject
[Thus, provided Rey doesn't have any objections, Obi-Wan will reach for her hair and start undoing the messy little bun that's left. And then carefully start brushing the tangles out of her hair.]
In the Jedi Order, the Younglings and Padawans always wore a braid. A very small one mind you, right about here.
[His finger lightly tapping the side of her head right behind Rey's right ear.]
So I was required to learn, you see.
no subject
That little flinch in her shoulders when he pokes behind her ear is also reflexive, and she doesn't comment on it, but she does have questions. What about the ones without hair? What's the purpose of a single small braid? Did once Obi-Wan have long hair? But most importantly...]
You aren't planning to give me just one tiny braid, are you? [Rey cocks her head to the side to glance at him with an expression of mild alarm. She really can't see how that would help in the current hair situation.]
no subject
No, certainly not. I'll be using all of your hair here. It should help keep it out of your face and still be hat friendly.
[Or at least once he straightens out said hair. She's got a few stubborn tangles there. Which he continues to carefully work on, knowing full well how unpleasant it is to have it pulled too hard.]
no subject
On the other hand, sitting in silence is also unbearable. So she latches onto a new subject. Not a particularly entertaining subject, but... it's small talk. That's a thing people do, she knows.]
A Padawan, that's... sort of an apprentice, isn't it? Not a full Jedi. A cadet.
no subject
[His tone cheerful, he continues to brush her hair for a few moments more. Eventually satisfied with the result, he starts to gather her hair in three separate sections.]
Now, to braid, you divide your hair in three parts like so.
[He knows she can't see it, but she should be able to feel it at least. And he can give her a more visual demonstration afterward.]
